YSL Teint Resist,Long Wear Endless Comfort Foundation

As YSL is one of my biggest weaknesses when it comes to makeup I headed straight for their counter when I was in need of more foundation. The Foundation I choose was the YSL Teint Resist, Long Wear Endless Comfort Foundation.

Yet again I was draw in by the lovely glass bottle and gold top, plus I really liked the pump dispenser.

The boots website describes the foundation as

'The luminous, transfer-resistant formula forms perfectly to the skin for a soft and seamless result. The complexion is preserved from feelings of discomfort or tightening, remaining supple and silky-smooth from the morning through to night. Pigments are specially coated for a color-true effect and the formula absorbs excess oil through the day, for a complexion which always looks and feels fresh.
Teint Resist gives the guarantee of an even, smooth and comfortable complexion hour after hour, giving you the confidence to put your best face forward in every circumstance'.
Mmmmm well I’m gutted to say it but I really don't agree, I didn’t like this at all, the coverage wasn’t great and not very buildable, I usually like quite a full coverage and I found that I needed to use a second foundation to achieve the coverage I like.

I also found on applying the foundation it felt kind of dry, I know it was supposed to be oil controling but it was kinda just sitting in all the dry areas of my skin and didn't seem to blend very well.

To top it off after a few hours my skin felt and looked really greasy!

For me the foundation didn't last as long as it claims and wasn't as good with the oil control as I had hoped

On the plus side I have to mention, in terms of transfer-resistance this is probably one of the better foundations I have come across. unfortunately this is way down on my priority list when I am on the hunt for foundation, well behind, coverage, buildability, and price.
I think I may also need a darker shade, the lady at the YSL counter matched my colour for this foundation yet I still felt it was quite a bit too light.
Overall I was very disappointed with this, especially at £29.50!

Autumn/Winter Wishlist

Now its coming to Autumn I wanted to do a little wish list. These are just some of the products which I have been wanting to purchase and either haven't got round to it or cannot justify spending the money.
I would have put on my other more pricer Items I am dying to own but that would be torture as I would never be able to afford them this side of Christmas as if you don't follow us on twitter you wont know I have already started buying Christmas presents as I have a very large family, Thanks Mother!!!!

So on to my most wanted list....
1. The Sleek Blush by 3 in Lace - now everyone has got this so I want it too. I think it will be perfect for popping in your over night bag or when your going away. A lot better than carrying around 2 or three singles.

2. Yankee Candle in Christmas Eve - I love candles and always have around 4 on the go around the house with a few extra for back up. If your electricity goes out let me know I have plenty to go around. I went into Clintons cards last week as i noticed the Christmas candles were out and gave them all a good sniffing and this was my favourite.

3. MUA Undress Me Too - I dont have any MUA palettes but I love there products I have plenty of their Lipsticks, blushes and singles but never got round to buying a full palette. Once again i think this will perfect for when you are going away for a few days to take minimal amounts of products.

4. Sleek I-Devine Eyeshadow Au Naturel - I have never used a sleek eyeshadow all I have from them is one Blush and I love it so not sure why I haven't tried other products. I have seen this online and I love the colours in here and think that they can be used for everyday use.

5. Maybelline Colour Tattoos - Now I have one of these in On and On Bronze and its definitely one of my favourite eyeshadows I wear this all the time and cant wait to get my hands on more colours.

Well thats it I am not greedy and dont think these will break my bank too much but still think I need to deserve these before I buy so if I do good and still have some pennies left over at the end of this month i may treat myself to some of these.

Big Sexy Hair Powder Play – Volumising and texturising powder

Annoyingly I have quite fine flat hair which is a nightmare especially as it is short and so only really looks styled when it has lots of volume.
I have tried a few different products mainly in the form of shampoos/conditioners, hairsprays and mousse but nothing as ever worked as well as this.

Sprinkling a small amount at the root and slightly ruffling the hair with your finger tips gives an amazing result! I couldn’t recommend this more, I haven’t tried other brands so I can’t say that it is the powder technology or the brand that I like but I would certainly try others.
This one is quite expensive, I got it as a gift but I know it retailed at around £11. It is a pretty small tube but it has lasted me ages as a little really does go a long way.
One thing I really love about this product is that even if my hair does begin to fall flat during the evening I can just ruffle the hair at the root and it brings it back to life without having to put in any more product, which means that you don’t have to carry it around with you.
The one down side is that it kinda ‘sticks ‘ (for want of a better word) you hair together so you can’t run your hand through your hair or mess around with it or brush it once it is in.
Overall I love this stuff, I would definitely recommend it and will definitely be buying it again.
What’s your big hair secret?

Autumn Drugstore/ Budget Lipstick Favourites

Its got to the time now that my Summer lipsticks have left my makeup bag and been placed in my lipstick stand with my favourite Autumn ones replacing them.

I was sad to say goodbye to my Candy Yum Yum Lipstick by MAC and my bright Fuchsia pink Kate Moss lipstick but it was time the darker nights are setting in and the big coat is out so I had to make the decision to do the change.

I chose 4 lipsticks to go into my everyday makeup bag and they were Kate Moss 22, MUA shade 16, Rimmels shade 122 Sylish and ELFs Posh.

Kate Moss 22 is going to be my evening/ night out Lipstick as I love a red lip especially in Autumn Winter. This is the perfect red shade not orangey like some others I have.

Shade 16 by MUA is a beautiful Plum colour and I wear this everyday for work I did still wear this throughout the Summer as I love it so much.

Rimmels 122 Stylish is a shade i wouldn't normally go for but I thought I'd have a little change now I  have dark hair. I will use this as a change to my plum one on a daily basis.

ELFs Posh was the last little beauty to take the trip to my makeup bag. I love this pinky purple shade for when im going shopping or for a meal it smells Lush too.

So here they are my 4 go to Autumn/Winter shades and all under £6

As everyone done the transition or are you still grabbing on to the last few days or Summer??

Naked Volume Unleashed Body Building Shampoo and conditioner

I have quite short hair which can be quite difficult to style especially when I am trying to grow it out.
As my hair is also quite fine it takes lots of volume to get it to look decent which I can only usually get from the hair dresses after a really good blow dry.
I realised that I needed to find a hair care regime that would help to add some volume whilst not being too heavy for my already oily hair.

I came across the naked range in boots , it was right at the front of the store so I though rather than go hunting through the endless shampoo isles I would just give it a try especially as it was sulphate free BONUS!. They were £4.19 each (strange price I know) but on the cheap side compared to some other I have tried.
Here is what the product states
‘Naked Volume Unleashed Body Building Shampoo uses wheat amino acids and corn extracts that help keep locks plumped up and Chicory extract helps to control the annoying flyaways you can get with finer hair. Fruit extracts full of naturally occurring AHA’s lightly smooth down hair’s surface scales and hair becomes soft, bouncy and a whole size bigger (but it only works in hair…)’ hahaha love that bit!.
A couple of things I should mention.
Yes I guess it helped a little in the volumising department but not a great deal. I wont be buying this range again mainly due to the smell which was not pleasant at all it reminded me of oatmeal and secondly I like to sometimes skip conditioner as I have quite greasy hair but with this shampoo there is no way you can skip the conditioner without your hair feeing like straw.

Over all quite disappointing, looks like I am still on the hunt for a good shampoo and conditioner. : (
Anyone have any good suggestions?

A long lasting fact

We often complain that our products don't stay put very long but Italian women during the Renaissance created the ultimate red lip and cheek stain by mixing cochineal, sandalwood or cinnabar with wax or grease. The application process was complex, but the red color lasted for over a week, even if she washed her face every day!!! Excellent!!

L'Oreal's Colour Riche Privee Collection - Barely Peach

I saw the L'Oreal's Colour Riche Privee Collection on the Vogue website and loved the idea of it. L'Oreal made this collection with everyone in mind - a perfect Nude for every skin tone.

The colours are gorgeous and there is 6 in the collection. Cheryl Cole, Doutzen Kroes,Freida Pinto, Julianne Moore, Eva Longoria and Liya Kebede helped develop the collection with L'oreal's colour designer Orrea Light.

I went into the shop looking not knowing which one to get as i had recently changed my hair from my natural colour blonde to dark brown so wasn't sure on which would suit me.

I was pretty disappointed when I went to Boots to see only 3 shades available I did a little swatch and I decided on Julianne Moore's Barely Peach and I love this subtle shade but I will buy one that is more suited to my skin tone when they are back in stock.

On to the packaging, I love this new look a nice Matte black bullet and this may sound weird but the lid goes on nice too making that satisfying little click sound when put on.

Verdict - yes I like this Lipstick but think i would have better suited the Doutzen Kroes one so will have to keep an eye out. I dont think they last as long as some other lipsticks in this price range too but dont mind reapplying you can pick these up for £8.19 at boots and at the moment there is a buy 1 get one half price deal on... oooooo.

Has anyone tried these and how did you think they suited your skin tone?

Rimmels Colour Rush Balm - The Redder the Better

I love a Lipstick in crayon form so really wanted to try the Rimmels Colour Rush balms when they hit the shelves. I behaved myself and listened to my bank balance and only picked up one. I love a bold lip and i haven't got a red in a lip crayon yet so thought this would be the perfect opportunity.

The colour I opted for was The Redder The Better a bright red colour perfect for my handbag on a night out.

I absolutely love the formula of this so moisturising and long lasting  there is no stickiness and you cant feel it on your lips something I love about a lip product.

All in all I am really excited by this product and cannot wait to get my hands some of the other shades in the collection. I think these will be perfect for the A/W months as they are so soft on the lips and moisturising eveything you need for the dry weather.

I am loving Rimmel at the moment. Anyone else tried these?
what did you think ?

How to take care of your skin in the winter

The dreaded day has arrived this week where we had to put on the heating in the house, and we all know what comes with the cold weather and heating… dry , irritated skin.
I have to say that I usually don’t change my skin care between summer and winter months I just stick to what I happen to be liking at the time but as I am getting older I am certainly finding that the temperatures affect my skin more and I feel that I should invest in a more appropriate skin care regime for the winter especially as I often use products especially for my oily skin which tends to dry out skin even more in the winter.
During my usual internet trawl for useful information and recommended tips and products I came across a few things that remained pretty much constant from each site so I though I would share them with you.
Here goes

As I said before I would usually just stick with what I have been using through the summer which would be Liz Earle or Clinique dramatically different moisturiser, but experts suggests that in cooler temperatures we should go for an ‘ ointment ‘ moisturiser, these are the ones that are oil based rather than water based. as the oil will create a protective layer on the skin that retains more moisture than a cream or lotion, an interesting fact that I didn’t know is that many lotions labeled as "night creams" are oil-based!
Tip: Choose your oils carefully as they aren’t all appropriate for the face. Look for "nonclogging" oils, like avocado oil, mineral oil, primrose oil, or almond oil.
Stear away from Shea oil -- or butter --  as these are thought to clog facial pores and sit heavily on the skin leaving a greasy feeling.

Crazy right! But sun damage isn’t just an issue during the summer , winter sun and snow glare are also very damaging to the skin so don’t forget to slather on the protective creams in the winter too.
Tip: Apply a broad spectrum sun cream to your face and hands around 30 minutes before you go out and reapply if you stay out for a long time.

Help your hands
I am a bugger for this I always forget to look after my hands but truth be told the skin on our hands is much thinner than other places of our body and has fewer oil glands which means it is difficult to keep the skin appropriately hydrated which can lead to itchiness and cracking.
Tip: use a good hand cream and always wear gloves when it is cold outside (avoid wool wherever possible)

Key purchase
Buy yourself a humidifier. Putting on the heating in the house is great for keeping toasty warm but it dries out the air too. A humidifier is a great way to keep moisture in the air to prevent your skin from drying out.
Tip: Place several small humidifiers around the house to disperse moisture more evenly

If your facial skin is uncomfortably dry, avoid using harsh peels, masks, and alcohol-based toners which can strip vital oil from your skin. Instead, find a cleansing milk or mild foaming cleanser, a toner with no alcohol, and masks that are "deeply hydrating," rather than clay-based, which tends to draw moisture out of the face.
Tip: Peels are great but don’t forget to use them a little less often in the winter.

Hot baths
I know skipping hot baths is the last thing we want to do in the cold weather. But the intense heat of a hot shower or bath actually breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin, which can lead to a loss of moisture. Apparently we are better off with just warm water and staying in the water a shorter amount of time. Terrible I know but it’s the price we have to pay to keep are skin in good condition.
Tip: Don’t forget to apply a good body lotion straight after your bath or shower while your skin is still damp.

Love your lips

One of the best tips for pretty lips is to exfoliate your lips daily. You can do this several different ways. One of the easiest and quickest ways to exfoliate your lips is to use a wet toothbrush with nothing on it and rub it back and forth across your lips in a gentle manner. This will remove the dead skin and leave your lips looking fuller and healthier. There are also lip exfoliators that you can purchase in the health and beauty section.

Carrie recently wrote a post on looking after dry skin which you can find Here

Small Boots Haul

On my way from work the other day I was drawn into the little Boots at the Train station by the half price perfume stand. I was good and didn't give in to the perfume temptation but ended up going for a sneaky peek down the makeup aisle and I'm sorry to say I wasn't as strong in this department.

I didn't do too bad I got 4 items for myself and a few for a friends present. The Make up was on buy one get one half price so I thought whats the harm I was running out of some staples anyway.

The first product I bought was my Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder now I picked up the a different shade to what i normally get by mistake but I think I prefer this on my skin. I got it in the Warm Beige and I normally wear Silky Beige easy mistake I guess.

I love this powder and its the only powder I use now and for £3.99 its a total bargain and is the best powder I have tried.

I then got another product I always use and have talked about in a past favourites and thats my trusty mascara Bourjois Clubbing Mascara in Ultra Black. This is my all time favourite mascara at more than half price of the Benefit They're Real my other favourite at £7.99.

I then treated myself to a Maybelline Colour Tattoo as I had heard everyone rave about them but never bought one and WOW I love it I got it in the colour On and On Bronze and I couldn't be happier. This is perfect if i cant be bothered to do my eye makeup i can just sweep it on my lid and a small amount on my lower lash line and Im good to go. I will definitely be buying some more of these.

Lastly I wanted a little moisturiser to go into my handbag as my nose gets really dry and on non makeup days i like to have some on me to reapply so I got myself a little Light Moisturiser by Simple. I got this from their miniatures/ holiday section and this is the perfect size.

I was quite proud of myself for not buying more as I normally come out with half the shop.

I will definitely be going back on payday for some more of the Colour Tattoos

Can you recommend any good colours??

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Lip Stain

I wanted to try a stain to see if I could make use of this type of product when I am at work or on the go so that I could avoid having to reapply.

I bought it in shade 17 baby pink which despite its name goes on a little more lilac/purple than it appears in the applicator.

The packaging is nice as always although not as fancy as most of the other products, the applicator is a heart shaped wand which is slightly angled to make application easier, I really like this idea.
The consistency feels a little strange as it is more like a watery liquid than a gloss. On first application the colour is lovely and bright and you get the glossy finish you get from a gloss which is lovely but it does fade quite quick, The stain effect works really well as even when the gloss fades you still have the colour remaining for a fairly long time. I did really like this product as much as the other YSL products I probably because I prefer lipstick in general but I will keep it aside for long trips or busy days rather than have it as an every day lip colour.
I think it is well worth its price tag though of £22.50
