The Secret to Healthy Hair

In order to get gorgeous healthy hair you need to pay attention to the way you are handling it. Here are a few tips I have picked up whilst trying to grow my hair from an short asymmetric bob (hard work I tell thee!!!) 


Using The Best Products For Your Hair Type- First things first, you need to know your hair type. You need to find the right products for your hair in order to keep it healthy and looking fabulous. So take the time to find the best products for your hair type. Sulphate free shampoos and conditioners are a must they are so much gentler on your hair and for us girls with greasy locks it helps to minumise the excess oil from product build up. I have literally gone from having to wash my hair every day to every other day just by switching to sulphate free shampoo, these are the ones that don’t usually foam up on the first wash and require second go but they are lots lots better for your hair.

All Natural- Give your hair a break by leaving it all natural! Constantly using your curling irons and straightners can really damage your hair, so as hard as it might be leave your hair natural! By giving your hair some down time you WILL notice an improvement with the way your hair looks and feels! So go a few days without products or styling. I try this whenever I can although it isn’t often enough I usually have a girly night of face masks, exfoliating, tanning and natural drying when ever my boyfriend has a night out or if I am having a lazy day home alone and  always feel great the next day.

Too Much Heat!- Wash your hair with warm water and rinse with cool water, using hot waster increases serum secretion from the scalp and leads to greasiness.
If you have control over the temperature of your curling irons and straighteners then use it, turn down the heat a few degrees and pay attention to what you could be doing to your hair.
The same goes for your blow dryer try to keep things cool as well. It might take longer, but your hair will be healthier and stronger than ever!
Don’t forget to use a good heat protector spray before styling too for added protection.

Give It a Break- Try keeping your hair coloring, and brushing in moderation. Giving your hair a break is essential! Styling and dying your hair constantly is only damaging it.
Cut back on coloring and dying and save your hair! Especially you peroxide users out there.
I have short hair so brushing isn’t much of an issue for me but I do colour my hair every month which has got to be excessive!! So I have decided to try and go for every other month instead!  I will let you know how I get on (hopefully this will save me some pennies too).

Careful With Wet Hair- Hair can be damaged very easily when it is wet, so be careful with it! Using a wide tooth comb to brush your hair out when it’s wet is much beter.

Sun exposure- Don’t forget to care for you hair through the summer by using products that protect your hair against the harmful rays, this will also prevent colour fade too.
Diet and Supplements – Eat clean and healthy as much as you an but when busy live takes over there are lots of vitamins and mineral supplements that are also great for your hair (and nails) such as B6, B12 and evening primrose oil check them out here

Don’t forget to trim those locks every 6-8 weeks and use a nourishing mask once a week.

So I have rather dark brown hair which used to be super healthy, but after a high school phase of dying it from a box for several years, followed by bleaching it nearly 3 times the summer before my sophomore year of college . . . my hair was FRIED. I did do a blog on an absolute MIRACLE of a product - the Organix shampoos and conditioners - and have had such a wonderful experience with them. My hair is super healthy now and I still have it colored every few months. I also try not to wash it every day - sometimes I only wash it twice or thrice per week! This really lets the natural oils of your hair give it a strong coating! I've also been eating a lot of fish and beans and take the supplement "Biotin" - these also help with growth!
