Gelly Hi-Sine Nail Paint by Barry M
Tuesday, July 09, 2013
I spotted the Gelly Hi-Shine polishes by Barry M in a variety of different colours and I wanted them all but thought I should try and curb my excitement a little and test out a couple first as I hadn't used these before.
I went for “Dragon” a light pink shade and “prickly pear” which is a pastel lilac colour.
I tried the pink first as it just happened to go with the outfit I was planning on wearing that day. At first I wasn’t too sure how I felt about the texture of the polish, obviously as the name suggests it aims to be more of a gel consistency but felt it was going on quite streaky and it took ages for the first coat to dry (you definitely need two coats with these) so applying the second coat while it was still tacky made the polish lift in places.
I ended up removing it all and reapplying, this time waiting longer for the first coat to dry before finishing with the second coat. This time I was much more careful with the application. In the end I was really pleased with the coverage and I was impressed by how opaque the colour was after the second coat as I thought it was going to let me down.
I have a very hands on job and am too lazy most days to wear a top coat but this polish lasted me for two days and just started chipping today which is why I have changed to the lilac shade. With a top coat this would last a good few days easy. Usually my polish chips the same day! I know I know i need a good top coat.
I have just applied the prickly pear colour today and this time took my time on application again I am really pleased with the end results.
Overall i would recommend these if you have the time and patience to apply it correctly, if you are anything like me you want a quick easy polish that will do with one coat this isn't a
polish for you but it is a lovely change for those days when you have a little more time to spare.

Try seche vite topcoat, you apply a thick coat over still tacky polish and it speeds up drying time and makes your mani last longer. I've got prickly pear but also recommend guava, it's a lush colour x
ReplyDeleteOoo thanks for the advice hunny!

I'm so impatient when it comes to painting my nails. This might be something that's hard for me to work with, but I guess the end results is worth it.
